(10) Rest in inaction, and the world will be good of itself. Cast your slough. Spit forth intelligence. Ignore all differences. Become one with the infinite. Release your mind. Free your soul. Be vacuous. Be Nothing! "Let all things revert to their original constitution. If they do this, without knowledge, the result will be a simple purity which they will never lose; but knowledge will bring with it a divergence therefrom. Seek not the names nor the relations of things, and all things will flourish of themselves." "Your Holiness," said the Spirit of the Clouds, as he prostrated himself and took leave, "has informed me with power and filled me with mysteries. What I had long sought, I have now found." The men of this world all rejoice in others being like themselves, and object to others not being like themselves. Those who make friends with their likes and do not make friends with their unlikes, are influenced by a desire to differentiate themselves from others. But those who are thus influenced by a desire to differentiate themselves from others,—how will they find it possible to do so? To subordinate oneself to the majority in order to gratify personal ambition, is not so good as to let that majority look each one after his own affairs. Those who desire to govern kingdoms, clutch at the advantages of the Three Princes without seeing the troubles involved. In fact, they trust to luck. But in thus trusting to luck not to destroy the kingdom, their chances of preserving it do not amount to one in ten thousand, while their chances of destroying it are ten thousand to nothing and even more. Such, alas! is the ignorance of rulers.

(19) If you desire to rise above mere names and letters, Make yourself free from self at one stroke! Like a sword be without trace of soft iron; Like a steel mirror, scour off all rust with contrition; Make yourself pure from all attributes of self, That you may see your own pure bright essence! Yea, see in your heart the knowledge of the Prophet, Without book, without tutor, without preceptor. The Prophet saith, "He is one of my people,

(1) Hail to you, ye Lords of Rule, devoid of Wrong, who are living for ever, and whose secular period is Eternity. I make my way towards you. Let me be glorified through my attributes; let me prevail through my Words of Power, and let me be rated according to my merit

(25) Nothing is so peculiar to wisdom as truth.

When you preside over men, remember that divinity also presides over you.

(4) Honor God above all things, that he may rule over you.

Whatever you honor above all things, that which you so honor will have dominion over you. But if you give yourself to the domination of God, you will thus have dominion over all things.

(9) This I ask Thee, O Ahura! tell me aright, how to myself shall I hallow the Faith of Thy people, which the beneficent kingdom's lord hath taught me, even the admonitions which He called Thine equal, hath taught me through His lofty (and most righteous Sovereignty and) Power, as He dwells in like abode with Thine Order and Thy Good Mind?

(167) Do not follow the evil law! Do not live on in thoughtlessness! Do not follow false doctrine! Be not a friend of the world.

(224) Speak the truth, do not yield to anger; give, if thou art asked for little; by these three steps thou wilt go near the gods.

(3) Let there be no estoppel against me through evidence; let not hindrance be made to me by the Divine Circle; let there not be a fall of the scale against me in presence of the great god, Lord of Amenta

(8) O, thou child of man! open the eyes of thy spirit, for I will here shew thee the right and real proper gate of the Deity, as indeed that very one only God will have it.

(101) How long, O Lord, is this trial to last? Give me one ruling principle, not ten principles! The whole world flees away from its own will and being In order to escape a while from self-consciousness, Men incur the reproach of wine and strong drink; For all know well this existence is a snare, Therefore they flee from self to being beside themselves, Call it intoxication or call it preoccupation, O guided one. Ere it is annihilated, no single soul What is "ascension" to heaven? Annihilation of self;

(102) Observe the heaven, ye children of heaven, and every work of the Most High, and fear ye Him and work no evil in His presence.

(1) "You wretches! You poor devils! You pretenders to truth! You falsifiers of knowledge! You sinners against the spirit! Do you still dare to listen when from the beginning you should have been speaking? Do you still dare to sleep when from the beginning you should have been awake so that the kingdom of heaven might receive you? I tell you the truth, it is easier for a holy person to sink into defilement, and for an enlightened person to sink into darkness, than for you to reign—or not to reign.

(5) You are a superior One, first shadow of the holy father, light from light.

(9) To all of them I give this for an answer. That I am not climbed up into the Deity, neither is it possible for such a mean man as I am to do it; but the Deity is climbed up into me, and from its love are these things revealed to me, which otherwise I, in my half-dead fleshly birth or geniture, must needs have let alone altogether.

(63) Therefore, O Child of Man, consider what thou art in this Time; esteem not so slightly or poorly of thyself, but consider that you remain in Paradise, and put not out the divine Light in you; or else you must hereafter remain in the Original of the Source of Anger or Wrath in the Valley of Darkness; and your noble Image out of God will be turned into a Serpent and Dragon.

(5) "Now, therefore, amēn, I say unto you: Every man who will receive that mystery of the Ineffable and accomplish it in all its types and all its figures,--he is a man in the world, but he towereth above all angels and will tower still more above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all archangels and will tower still more above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all tyrants and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all lords and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all gods and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all light-givers and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all pure [ones] and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all triple-powers and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all forefathers and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all invisibles and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above the great invisible forefather and will raise himself above him. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above all those of the Midst and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above the emanations of the Treasury of the Light and will raise himself above them all. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above the Mixture and will raise himself entirely above it. "He is a man in the world, but he towereth above the whole region of the Treasury and will raise himself entirely above it. "He is a man in the world, but he will rule with me in my kingdom. "He is a man in the world, but he is king in the Light. "He is a man in the world, but he is not one of the world. "And amēn, I say unto you: That man is I and I am that man.

(4) And this is what the Son of Man reveals to us: It is fitting for you (pl.) to receive the word of truth, if one will receive it perfectly. But as for one who is in ignorance, it is difficult for him to diminish his works of darkness which he has done. Those who have known Imperishability, however, have been able to struggle against passions [...]. I have said to you, "Do not build nor gather for yourselves in the place where the brigands break open, but bring forth fruit to the Father."

(18) Fixing your mind on Me, by My grace, you will overcome all obstacles; but if from egotism, you do not take My instruction, you will perish.

(8) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.
