(24) And Jacob said : " Swear to me, this day," and he sware unto him.

(9) And thus the sons of Noah divided unto their sons in the presence of Noah their father, and he bound them all by an oath, imprecating a curse on every one that sought to seize the portion which had not fallen (to him) by his lot.

(10) Cursed art thou, and cursed shalt thou be beyond all the sons of Noah, by the curse * by which we bound ourselves by an oath in the presence of the holy judge, and in the presence of Noah our father."

(6) And Noah and his sons swore that they would not eat veloped ritual of a later age ; cf. Exod. xxix. 4c 2-

(7) "This is the oath: I adjure you who will read this holy book, by heaven and earth and fire and water and seven rulers of substance and the creative spirit in them and the god not conceived and the self-conceived one and the one who has been conceived, that you guard what Hermes has communicated. God will be at one with those who keep the oath and everyone we have named, but wrath will come upon each of those who violate the oath. This is the perfect one who is, child."

(33) And again, it is written a second time : " Cursed he be who lieth with the wife of his father, for he hath uncovered his father's shame"; and all the holy ones of the Lord said " So be it ; so be it."

(9) And they all said, "So be it ; so be it," for themselves and their sons for ever throughout their generations till the day of judgment, on which the Lord God shall judge them with a sword and with fire, for all the unclean wickedness of their errors, wherewith they have filled the earth with transgression and uncleanness and fornication and sin. 1 Including ( ?) (26) When it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, under a curse, neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

(5) With respect to oaths, however, all the Pythagoreans religiously observe them, being mindful of the Pythagoric precept,

First to th’ immortal Gods thy homage pay,

(36) And now shall make you swear a great oath — for there is no oath which is greater than it by the name glorious and honoured 1 i. e. Machpelah. 3 " Your brothers " probably a gloss. and great and splendid and wonderful and mighty, which created the heavens and the earth and all things together — that ye will fear Him and worship Him.

(35) And I swear unto thee that I shall love him, and not desire evil against him all the days of mv life but good only." And he sware unto her regarding all this matter.

(10) And the Lord our God bade us to bind all.

(24) And he called the name of that place the " Well of the Oath " ; for there he had sworn to Abimelech and Ahuzzath his friend and Phicol the prefect of his host.

(42) Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put Jesus to death.

(24) And Isaac knew that day that under constrainthe had sworn to them to make peace with them. 1 tm Sitnah; cf. Gen. xxvi. 21.

(37) And then Esau answered and said unto him, " Neither the children of men nor the beasts of the earth have any oath of righteousness which in swearing they have sworn (an oath valid) for ever ; but every day they devise evil one against another, and how each may slay his adversary and foe. ig. And thou dost hate me and my children for ever. And there is no observ- ing the tie of brotherhood with thee.

(12) Thus one of the Wicked curses the other, who has caused him to commit such Wickedness; the Inferior his Superior that has given him Offence, [and been a Stumbling-block to him;] the Laity curse the Clergy or Priests, who have given them evil Examples, and seduced them with false Doctrine; the wicked Curser, Swearer, and Blasphemer, bites and gnaws his Tongue, which has so murdered him; the Mind beats the Head against the Stones; and the Ungodly hide themselves in the Caves and Holes of the Earth, before the Terror of the LORD; for there is great Quaking and Stirring in the Essences of the Anger and fierce Wrath of the LORD; and the Anguish breaks the Heart, and yet there is no Dying; for the Anger is stirring, and the Life of the Ungodly flows up in the Anger. There the Ungodly curses the Heaven and the Earth that bore him, as also the Constellation [or Stars] that led him, and the Hour of his Birth; all his Uncleanness stands before his Eyes, and he sees the Cause of his Horror, and condemns himself; he cannot look upon the Righteous for very Shame; all his Works stand in his Mind, and in the Essences cry, Woe to him that did them, they accuse him; the Tears of those he has afflicted and oppressed are like a fiery stinging Serpent; he desires Rest or Ease, but there is no Comfort, Despair rises up in him, for Hell terrifies him.

(93) They banded themselves together and] at the side of Tiamat [they] advanced

(4) And on this account it is written on the heavenly tables, " Cursed is he who smiteth his neighbour treacherously, and let all who have seen and heard say, So be it ; and the man who hath seen and not declared (it), let him be accursed as the other."
