(120) After that, he created the Princely-angels, according to the seven qualifying or fountain Spirits, answerable to their Quality, viz. GABRIEL, as an Angel Prince of the Tone, Sound, or of swift or speedy Messages; as also RAPHAEL, and others beside in the Kingdom of MICHAEL.

(42) "I intreat thee, Pabiel, by the whole Spirit of Heaven, Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Witnesses, Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels, by the holy, great, and glorious Angels Orphaniel Tetra-Dagiel Salamla Acimoy pastor poti, that thou come forthwith, readily show thyself that we may see you and audibly hear you, speak unto us and fulfil our desires, and by your star which is Jupiter, and by all the constellations of Heaven, and by whatsoever you obey, and by your character which you have given, proposed, and confirmed, that you attend unto me according to the prayer and petitions which I have made unto Almighty God, and that you forthwith send me one of your ministering Spirits, who may willingly, truly, and faithfully fulfil all my desires, and that you command him to appear unto me in the form of a beautiful Angel, gently, courteously, affably, and meekly, entering into communication with me, and that he neither permitting any evil Spirit to approach in any sort of hurt, terrify or affright me in any way nor deceiving me in any wise. Through the virtue of Our Lord JC, in whose Name I attend, wait for, and expect thy appearance. Fiat, fiat, fiat. Amen, Amen, Amen.

(2) The (Order) of the Holy Archangels is of the same rank with the heavenly Principalities. For there is one Hierarchy and Division, as I said, of them and the Angels. But since there is not a Hierarchy which does not possess first and middle and last powers, the holy order of Archangels occupies the middle position in the Hierarchy between the extremes, for it belongs alike to the most holy Principalities and to the holy Angels; to the Principalities because it is turned in a princely fashion to the superessential Princedom, and is moulded to It as far as attainable, and unites the Angels after the fashion of its own well-regulated and marshalled and invisible leadings; and it belongs to the Angels, because it is of the messenger Order, receiving hierarchically the Divine illuminations from the first powers, and announcing the same to the Angels in a godly manner, and, through Angels, manifesting to us, in proportion to the religious aptitude of each of the godly persons illuminated. For the Angels, as we have already said, complete the whole series of Heavenly Minds, as being the last Order of the Heavenly Beings who possess the Angelic characteristic; yea, rather, they are more properly named Angels by us than those of higher degree, because their Hierarchy is occupied with the more manifest, and is more particularly concerned with the things of the world. For the very highest Order, as being placed in the first rank near the Hidden One, we must consider as directing in spiritual things the second, hiddenly; and that the second, which is composed of the holy Lordships and Powers and Authorities, leads the Hierarchy of the Principalities and Archangels and Angels, more clearly indeed than the first Hierarchy, but more hiddenly than the Order after it, and the revealing order of the Principalities, Archangels, and Angels, presides, through each other, over the Hierarchies amongst men, in order that the elevation, and conversion, and communion, and union with God may be in due order; and, further, also that the procession from God vouchsafed benignly to all the Hierarchies, and passing to all in common, may be also with most sacred regularity. Hence, the Word of God has assigned our Hierarchy to Angels, by naming Michael as Ruler of the Jewish people, and others over other nations. For the Most High established borders of nations according to number of Angels of God.

(2) These are the questions which upon thy wish Are thrusting equally; and therefore first Will I treat that which hath the most of gall. He of the Seraphim most absorbed in God, Moses, and Samuel, and whichever John Thou mayst select, I say, and even Mary, Have not in any other heaven their seats, Than have those spirits that just appeared to thee, Nor of existence more or fewer years; But all make beautiful the primal circle, And have sweet life in different degrees, By feeling more or less the eternal breath. They showed themselves here, not because allotted This sphere has been to them, but to give sign Of the celestial which is least exalted. To speak thus is adapted to your mind, Since only through the sense it apprehendeth What then it worthy makes of intellect. On this account the Scripture condescends Unto your faculties, and feet and hands To God attributes, and means something else; And Holy Church under an aspect human Gabriel and Michael represent to you, And him who made Tobias whole again.

(125) Yet you are to know, that every Angel has all the seven Spirits in him, but one of the seven is Chief or Principal. Now behold!

(9) The Spirit also testifies clearly, that Angels and Men have one and the same Image: For God has made another Angel instead of expelled Lucifer and his Legions, out of the same Place, wherein Lucifer sate, and out of which he was made, which Angel was ADAM, if he had but persevered in his Clarity Brightness or Glory.

(15) But over Israel He .did not appoint any angel or spirit, for He alone is their ruler, and He will preserve them and require them at the hand of His angels and His spirits, and at the hand of all His powers in order that He may preserve them and bless them, and that they may be His and He may be theirs from henceforth tor ever.

(32) The Angel-Princes were created according to the Spirits of God, and the Cherubim according to the Heart of God: And as the Divine Being works, so also do the Angels.

(2) Now all Angels are interpreters of those above them, the most reverend, indeed, of God, Who moves them, and the rest, in due degree, of those who have been moved by God. For, to such an extent has the superessential harmony of all things provided for the religious order and the regulated conduct of each of the rational and intellectual beings, that each rank of the Hierarchies, has been placed in sacred order, and we observe every Hierarchy distributed into first, and middle, and last Powers. But to speak accurately, He distinguished each Division itself, by the same Divine harmonies; wherefore the theologians say that the most Divine Seraphim cry one to another, indicating distinctly, as I think by this, that the first impart their knowledge of divine things to the second.

(10) Here thou must know that the Angels are not all of one Quality, neither are they equal or alike to one another in Power and Might: Indeed every Angel is the Power of all the seven qualifying or fountain Spirits, but in every one there is somewhat of one Quality more predominant and strong than another, and according to that Quality is he also glorified.

(73) A Cherubim or Leader of a Kingdom of Angels, is the Fountain or Heart of his whole Kingdom, and is made out of all the Powers out of which his Angels are made, and is the most powerful and brightest of them all.

(44) But the seven Spirits, which are in an Angel, which generate the Light and Understanding, they are bound and united with the whole God, that they should not qualify any other Way, either higher or more vehemently, than God himself; but that there should be one and the same Manner and Way between them both.

(36) Answer. The Holy Soul of a Man, and the Spirit of an Angel, is and has one and the same Substance and Being, and there is no Difference therein, but only in the Quality itself, or their corporeal Government; that which qualifies outwardly or from without in Man, by the Air, has a corrupt earthly Quality, yet on the other Side it has also a divine and heavenly Quality hidden from the Creatures.

(33) Every Angel is created in the seventh qualifying or fountain Spirit, which is NATURE, out of which his Body is compacted or incorporated together, and his Body is given him for a Propriety, and the same is free to itself, as the whole Deity is free. [Viz. the Body.]
