(49) And remember thou this day all the days of thy life, and observe it from year to year all the days of thy life, once a year, on its day, accord- ing to all the law thereof, and do not adjourn (it) from day to day, or from month to month.

(5) With respect to oaths, however, all the Pythagoreans religiously observe them, being mindful of the Pythagoric precept,

First to th’ immortal Gods thy homage pay,

(6) And the Lord smelt the goodly savour,* and He made a covenant with him that there should not "be any more a flood to destroy the earth ; * that all the days of the earth seed-time and harvest should never cease ; cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night should not change their order, nor cease for ever.

(24) ¶Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

(21) " ... unto the path of the Sun-god shalt thou cause to draw nigh

(31) Mayest thou prosper and fulfil the vow which thou hast vowed; and put not off thy vow; for thou wilt be called to account as touching the vow; now therefore make haste to perform it, and may He be pleased who hath made all tilings, to whom thou hast vowed the vow."

(29) But that the birth, or the body of the stars in their seat, does not change or alter (but do as they did from eternity), signifieth that there shall be a constant, continued birth or geniture, whereby, in one uniform operation, which yet stands in the infiniteness, the benumbed body of the earth should continually and constantly be kindled again, and generate itself anew, and so also should the house of darkness of the deep above the earth; whereby the new body might continually and constantly be generated out of death, till time should be accomplished, and the whole newborn body [perfected]. Now thou wilt object and say, Then sure the stars are God, and they must be honoured and worshipped as God.

(65) Now when thou beholdest the sun and stars, thou must not think that they are the holy and pure God, and thou must not offer to pray to them, or ask anything of them, for they are not the holy God, but are the kindled, austere birth or geniture of his body, wherein love and wrath wrestle the one with the other.

(15) For the command is ordained for a covenant, that they should observe it for ever among all the children of Israel.

(49) "'Then I pray thee give and confirm thy character unto me whereby I may call thee at all times, and also swear unto me this oath and I will religiously keep my vow and covenant unto Almighty God and will courteously receive thee at all times where thou dost appear unto me.'

(22) "[And on the ... day] thou shalt stand opposite, and the Sun-god shall

(15) And I shall establish My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee, throughout their generations, for an eternal covenant, so that I may be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

(2) "Henceforth, O Shem, go in grace and continue in faith upon the earth. For every power of light and fire will be completed by me because of you. For without you they will not be revealed until you speak of them openly. When you cease to be upon the earth, they will be given to the worthy ones. And apart from this proclamation, let them speak about you upon the earth, since they will take the carefree and agreeable land.

(31) The Commandments, not limited to any race, place, time or occasion, universal, are the great obligation.

THE holy king of Gods and men I call, Celestial Law, the righteous seal of all; The seal which stamps whate'er the earth contains, Nature's firm basis, and the liquid plains: Stable, and starry, of harmonious frame, Preserving laws eternally the same: Thy all-composing pow'r in heaven appears, Connects its frame, and props the starry spheres; And shakes weak Envy with tremendous sound, Toss'd by thy arm in giddy whirls around. 'Tis thine, the life of mortals to defend, And crown existence with a blessed end; For thy command and alone, of all that lives Order and rule to ev'ry dwelling gives: Ever observant of the upright mind, And of just actions the companion kind; Foe to the lawless, with avenging ire, Their steps involving in destruction dire. Come, bless, abundant pow'r, whom all revere, By all desir'd, with favr'ing mind draw near; Give me thro' life, on thee to fix my fight, And ne'er forsake the equal paths of right. (17) Sun and Moon - one* the day, the other the night, bow to the dust in adoration; and from their worship comes their movement. It is God who has spread out the day in whiteness, it is he who has folded up the night and blackened it.

(2) And God appointed the sun4 to be a great sign on the earth for days and for sabbaths and for months and for feasts and for years and for sabbaths of years and for jubilees and for all seasons of the years.

(3) Similarly, also, demonstrations from the resources of erudition, strengthen, confirm, and establish demonstrative reasonings, in so far as men's minds are in a wavering state like young people's. "The good commandment," then, according to the Scripture, "is a lamp, and the law is a light to the path; for instruction corrects the ways of life." "Law is monarch of all, both of mortals and of immortals," says Pindar. I understand, however, by these words, Him who enacted law. And I regard, as spoken of the God of all, the following utterance of Hesiod, though spoken by the poet at random and not with comprehension: "For the Saturnian framed for men this law: Fishes, and beasts, and winged birds may eat Each other, since no rule of right is theirs; But Right (by far the best) to men he gave."

(49) For it is an eternal ordinance, and engraven on the heavenly tables regarding all the children of Israel that they should observe it every year on its day once a year, throughout all their generations ; and there is no limit of days, for this is ordained for ever.

(18) And in thy seed will all nations of the earth be blessed ; Because thou hast obeyed My voice, And I have shown to all that thou art faithful unto Me in all that I have said unto thee : Go in peace."
