(7) And they begat sons the Naphidtm, and jthey were all unlikej,* and they devoured one another : and the Giants^lewllieliipiuL and the Naphil slew the Elj6, and the EIj6* mankind, and one man another.

(5) And He sent His sword into their midst that each should slay his neigh- bour, and they began to slay each other till they all fell by the sword and were destroyed from the earth.

(8) And, afterwards, antagonism rushed into their minds, and their minds were thoroughly corrupted, and they exclaimed that the evil spirit created the water and earth, plants and animals, and the other things as aforesaid.

(5) And God looked upon the earth, and behold it was corrupt, and all flesh had corrupted its orders, and all that were upon the earth had wrought all manner of evil before His eyes.

(6) Then they said to them: "Because it has not been possible for you to talk, you shall be changed. We have changed our minds: Your food, your pasture, your homes. and your nests you shall have; they shall be the ravines and the woods, because it has not been possible for you to adore us or invoke us. There shall be those who adore us, we shall make other [beings] who shall be obedient. Accept your destiny: your flesh shall be tom to pieces. So shall it be. This shall be your lot." So they said, when they made known their will to the large and small animals which are on the face of the earth. They wished to give them another trial; they, wished to make another attempt; they wished to make [all living things] adore them. But they could not understand each other's speech; they could succeed in nothing, and could do nothing. For this reason they were sacrificed and the animals which were on earth were condemned to be killed and eaten. For this reason another attempt had to be made to create and make men by the Creator, the Maker, and the Forefathers.

(7) And after this they sinned against the beasts and birds, and all that moveth and walketh on the earth : and much blood was shed on the earth, and every imagination and desire of men imagined vanity , and evil continually.

(23) Thus the earth brought forth no strange life, except that which had been in it from eternity: As before the time of the wrath it had brought forth heavenly fruits, which had a holy, pure heavenly body, and were the food of angels, so now it brought forth fruits according to its comprehensible, palpable, hard, evil, wrathful, poisonous, venomous, half-dead kind; for as the mother was, so were her children.

(0) On the conflict which the evil spirit waged with the earth.

(5) And the Lord said that He would destroy everything which was upon the earth, both men ami cattle, and beasts, and fowls of the air, and that which moveth on the earth.

(92) And the gods of the battle cried out for their weapons

(2) Thus one of them addressed me, and I straight Should have revealed myself, were I not bent On other novelty that then appeared. For through the middle of the burning road There came a people face to face with these, Which held me in suspense with gazing at them. There see I hastening upon either side Each of the shades, and kissing one another Without a pause, content with brief salute. Thus in the middle of their brown battalions Muzzle to muzzle one ant meets another Perchance to spy their journey or their fortune. No sooner is the friendly greeting ended, Or ever the first footstep passes onward, Each one endeavours to outcry the other; The new-come people: "Sodom and Gomorrah!" The rest: "Into the cow Pasiphae enters, So that the bull unto her lust may run!" Then as the cranes, that to Riphaean mountains Might fly in part, and part towards the sands, These of the frost, those of the sun avoidant, One folk is going, and the other coming, And weeping they return to their first songs, And to the cry that most befitteth them;

(6) Then the whole nature of this world became springing, boiling and moving in the earth, as well as above the earth, and everywhere, and began to generate itself again in all things.

(113) But that the life lies hid under and in the death of the earth, as also in the children of the earth, I will here demonstrate to you.

(6) And between the beasts] of the field and the creatures of the city had divided

(3) This was to punish them because they had not thought of their mother, nor their father, the Heart of Heaven, called Huracán. And for this reason the face of the earth was darkened and a black rain began to fall, by day and by night. Then came the small animals and the large animals, and sticks and stones struck their faces. And all began to speak: their earthen jars, their griddles, their plates, their pots, their grinding stones, all rose up and struck their faces. "You have done us much harm; you ate us, and now we shall kill you," said their dogs and birds of the barnyard.

(54) Now if it was thus at that time, when there was such murdering and robbing, sure it will be much more so at the Last Judgment Day, when the earth shall be separated in the kindled wrath- fire, and will be living again or revived. Then, surely, it will be comprehended in the word of love, as it has in the same word here generated its fruit of grass, herbs and trees, as also all manner of mineral ores of silver and gold.

(1) As the evil spirit rushed in, the earth shook, and the substance of mountains was created in the earth.

(2) But those that they had made, that they had created, did not think, did not speak with their Creator, their Maker. And for this reason they were killed, they were deluged. A heavy resin fell from the sky. The one called Xecotcovach came and gouged out their eyes; Camalotz came and cut off their heads; Cotzbalam came and devoured their flesh. Tucumbalam came, too, and broke and mangled their bones and their nerves, and ground and crumbled their bones.

(42) And they ate and drank and arose and remained with their asses.

(122) O man, thou wast not, by the Word, created together with and as the beasts, from good and evil; and if thou hadst not eaten of good and evil, then the wrath-fire would not have been in thee; but by that means thou hast also gotten a bestial body: It is done: The love of God take pity, and have mercy in that behalf.
