(23) And all these will come on an evil generation, which transgresseth on the earth : their works are uncleanness and fornication, and pollution and abominations.

(30) For there will be plague upon plague, and curse upon curse, and every judgment and plague and curse will come (upon him) : if he do this thing, or hide his eyes from those who commit uncleanness, or those who defile the sanctuary of the Lord, or those who profane His holy name, (then) will the whole nation together be judged for all the uncleanness and profanation of this (man).

(15) And there will be great wrath from the Lord against the children of Israel, because they have forsaken His covenant and turned aside from His word, and pro- voked and blasphemed, inasmuch as they do not observe the ordinance of this law ; for they have treated their members like the Gentiles, so that they may be removed and rooted out of the land. And there will no more be pardon or forgiveness unto them [so that there should be forgiveness and pardon] for all the sin of this eternal error. ' Apparently such apostasy was widely spread when our author wrote. f \

(23) And a great punishment will befall the deeds of this generation 1 Internecine strife is a standing feature in such eschato- logical passages; cf. Ezra vi. ; Matt. xxiv. ; Ap. Bar., lxx. -4. from the Lord, and He will give them over to the sword and to judgment and to captivity, and to be plundered and devoured.

(22) When he has completed the established time of the kingdom of the earth, then the cleansing of the souls will come, since wickedness is stronger than you. All the powers of the sea will tremble and dry up, And the firmament will not pour down dew. The springs will cease. The rivers will not flow down to their springs. And the waters of the springs of the earth will cease. Then the depths will be laid bare and they will open. The stars will grow in size, and the sun will cease.

(36) But on the day of turbulence and execration and indignation and anger, with flam- ing devouring fire as He burnt Sodom, so likewise will He burn his land and his city and all that is his, and he will be blotted out of the book of the discipline of the children of men, and not be recorded in the book of life, but in that which is appointed to destruc- tion, and he will depart into eternal execration ; so that their condemnation may be always renewed in hate and in execration and in wrath and in torment and in indignation and in plagues and in disease for ever. n. I say and testify to you, my sons, according to the judgment which will come upon the man who wisheth to injure his brother."

(46) It is the firmament between the clear Deity and the corrupt nature, which thou must break through when thou intendest to come to God; and it is that very firmament which does not quite stand in the wrath, neither is it altogether or perfectly pure; concerning which it is written, [job XV. 15] The very heavens are not pure in the sight of God. But at the Last Judgment Day the wrath will be purged from them. For it is written, [Matt xxiv. 35] Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away, saith Christ. [Mark xiii. 31]
