(3) Chains have been put upon their arms and hands and feet in consequence of the evil things which they have done to me

(18) And He was wroth with them, and bound them till the time when their guilt should be consummated (even) ⌈for ten thousand years⌉.'

(48) And on the fourteenth we bound him thathe might not accuse the children of Israel on the clay when they asked the Egyptians for vessels and garments, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze, in order to despoil the Egyptians in return for the bondage in which they had forced them to serve.

(62) And He will deliver them to the angels for punishment, To execute vengeance on them because they have oppressed His children and His elect

(46) And they mado them serve with rigour, and the more they dealt evilly with them, the more they increased and multiplied.

(69) With chains shall they be bound, And in their assemblage-place of destruction shall they be imprisoned, And all their works vanish from the face of the earth.

(48) And the Lord did everything for Israel's sake, and according to His covenant, which He had ordained with Abraham that He would take vengeance on them as they had brought them by force into bondage.

(10) In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: 〈and〉 to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever. And whosoever shall be condemned and destroyed will from thenceforth be bound together with them to the end of all generations.

(14) And the nation also to whom they will be in bondage shall I judge, and after that they will come forth thence with much substance.

(23) And a great punishment will befall the deeds of this generation 1 Internecine strife is a standing feature in such eschato- logical passages; cf. Ezra vi. ; Matt. xxiv. ; Ap. Bar., lxx. -4. from the Lord, and He will give them over to the sword and to judgment and to captivity, and to be plundered and devoured.

(22) Here their spirits shall be set apart in this great pain till the great day of judgement and punishment and torment of those who †curse† for ever, and retribution for their spirits. There He shall bind them for ever.

(104) They have had dominion over us that hated us †and smote us; And to those that hated us† we have bowed our necks But they pitied us not.

(35) What is this like? A king wanted to punish and whip his slaves. One of his governors stood up and asked the reason for this punishment. When the king described the offence, the governor said, "Your slaves never did such a thing. I will be their bondsman until you investigate it more thoroughly." In the meantime, the king's anger was calmed.

(34) And he returned in peace, and made peace with them, and they became his servants, until the day thathe and his sons went down into 2149 a.m. Egypt.

(5) And their fathers were witnesses (of their destruc- tion), and after this they were bound in the depths of the earth for ever, until the day of the great con- demnation, when judgment is executed on all those who have corrupted their ways and their works before the Lord. n. And He | destroyed! all from their places, and there jwasf not left one of them whom He judged not according to all their wickedness.

(90) And behold they were all bound, I saw, and they all stood before Him.

(12) Then the Egyptians, oft admonished, continued unwise; and the Hebrews were spectators of the calamities that others suffered, learning in safety the power of God. And when the Egyptians gave no heed to the effects of that power, through their foolish infatuation disbelieving, then, as is said, "the children knew" what was done; and the Hebrews afterwards going forth, departed carrying much spoil from the Egyptians, not for avarice, as the cavillers say, for God did not persuade them to covet what belonged to others. But, in the first place, they took wages for the services they had rendered the Egyptians all the time; and then in a way recompensed the Egyptians, by afflicting them in requital as avaricious, by the abstraction of the booty, as they had done the Hebrews by enslaving them. Whether, then, as may be alleged is done in war, they thought it proper, in the exercise of the rights of conquerors, to take away the property of their enemies, as those who have gained the day do from those who are worsted (and there was just cause of hostilities. The Hebrews came as suppliants to the Egyptians on account of famine; and they, reducing their guests to slavery, compelled them to serve them after the manner of captives, giving them no recompense); or as in peace, took the spoil as wages against the will of those who for a long period had given them no recompense, but rather had robbed them, [it is all one.]

(38) And Jacob sent word to his sons that they should make peace, and they made peace with them, and placed the yoke of servitude upon them, so that they paid tribute fo Jacob and to his sons always.

(46) And he set over them taskmasters to afflict them with slavery; and they built strong2 cities for ^Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamses, and they built all -the walls and all the fortifications which had fallen in the cities of Egypt.

(5) And against the angels whom He had sent upon the earth, He was exceedingly wroth, and He gave commandment to root them out of all their dominion, and He bade us to bind them in the depths of the earth, and behold they are bound in the midst of them, and are (kept) separate.
