(260) 316 To say: O Geb, bull of Nut, N. is a Horus, heir of his father. 316 N. is the goer, the comer, the fourth of these four gods, 316 who have brought water (and) made themselves clean, who rejoice over the "power" of their fathers. 316 He desires that he be justified by that which he has done. 317 Since Tfn and Tefnut have judged N.; since the Two Truths have heard (him); 317 since Shu has been advocate (tongue); since the Two Truths have given verdict; 317 he has encompassed the thrones of Geb, he has raised himself to that which he wished. 318 (So now that) his limbs are united, which were hidden (in the grave), 318 he unites himself with those who are in Nun. He puts an end to his words in Heliopolis, 318 as N. goes forth on that day in the true form of an . 319 N. destroys battle; he punishes revolt. 319 N. goes forth (as) the protector of truth; he brings her, for she is with him. 319 Those who were furious, (now) busy themselves for him; those who are in Nun, (now) give life over to him. 320 The refuge of N. is in his eye; the protection of N. is in his eye; 320 the power of N. is in his eye; the strength of N. is in his eye. 321 O gods of South, North, West, East, respect N., fear him; 321 he has sat in the t of the two courts. 321 That uraeus-serpent dnn-wt.t might have burned you, for she attained your heart, 322 you (they) who might have come to N. as an adversary; come to him (as a friend), come to him. 322 N. is the dd of his father, the nb of his mother. 323 The abomination of N. is to walk in darkness, 323 lest he see those who are upside down. 323 N. will come forth in this day; he will bring truth with him. 323 N. will not be delivered up to your flame, O gods.

(1) Tat: [Now] in the General Sermons, father, thou didst speak in riddles most unclear, conversing on Divinity; and when thou saidst no man could e'er be saved before Rebirth, thy meaning thou didst hide. Further, when I became thy Suppliant, in Wending up the Mount, after thou hadst conversed with me, and when I longed to learn the Sermon (Logos) on Rebirth (for this beyond all other things is just the thing I know not), thou saidst, that thou wouldst give it me - "when thou shalt have become a stranger to the world". Wherefore I got me ready and made the thought in me a stranger to the world-illusion. And now do thou fill up the things that fall short in me with what thou saidst would give me the tradition of Rebirth, setting it forth in speech or in the secret way. I know not, O Thrice-greatest one, from out what matter and what womb Man comes to birth, or of what seed.

(9) "Are you afraid?" asked Tzŭ Ssŭ. "I am not," replied Tzŭ Yü. "What have I to fear? Ere long I shall be decomposed. My left shoulder will become a cock, and I shall herald the approach of morn. My right shoulder will become a cross-bow, and I shall be able to get broiled duck. My buttocks will become wheels; and with my soul for a horse, I shall be able to ride in my own chariot. I obtained life because it was my time: I am now parting with it in accordance with the same law. Content with the natural sequence of these states, joy and sorrow touch me not. I am simply, as the ancients expressed it, hanging in the air, unable to cut myself down, bound with the trammels of material existence. But man has ever given way before God: why, then, should I be afraid?" By-and-by, another of the four, named Tzŭ Lai, fell ill, and lay gasping for breath, while his family stood weeping around. The fourth friend, Tzŭ Li, went to see him. "Chut!" cried he to the wife and children; "begone! you balk his decomposition." Then, leaning against the door, he said, "Verily, God is great! I wonder what he will make of you now. I wonder whither you will be sent. Do you think he will make you into a rat's liver or into the shoulders of a snake?" "A son," answered Tzŭ Lai, "must go whithersoever his parents bid him. Nature is no other than a man's parents.

(14) Whatever form is produced, Ο son of Kunti, in any womb, the Great Nature is its womb, and I am the seed-giving Father.

(83) Thou must know that I do not suck it out from the dead or mortal reason, but my spirit qualifieth, mixeth or uniteth with God, and proveth or searcheth the Deity, how it is in all its births or genitures in its taste and smell: And I find that the Deity is a very simple, pure, meek, loving and quiet being; and that the birth of the Ternary of God generateth itself very meekly, friendly, lovingly and unanimously, and the sharpness of the innermost birth can never elevate or swell itself into the meekness of the Ternary, but remaineth hidden in the deep.

(245) 250 This N. comes to thee Nut; this N. comes to thee Nut. 250 He has thrown his father to the ground; he has left Horus behind him. 250 His two wings are grown as (those of) a falcon; (his) two feathers as (those of) a gmw-falcon. 250 His ba has brought him (here); his magic power has equipped him. 251 Thou openest thy place in heaven, among the stars of heaven; 251 thou art the only star, the companion of w; thou lookest down on Osiris, 251 as he commands the spirits. Thou standest there far from him. 251 Thou are not of them; thou shalt not be of them.

(101) Now behold! When the seed is generated, it stands in the centre or midst of the body in the heart; for there the mother catcheth the Ternary or Trinity.

(28) For behold, when the Gate of this World in the Child is made ready, so that the Child is [become] a living Soul out of the Essences, and now [henceforth] sees only [by or] in the Light of the Sun, and not in the Light of God, then comes the true Artificer, instantly in the Twinkling of an Eye, when the Light of the Life kindles, and figures [that which is] his; for the Center breaks forth in all the three Principles. First, there are the four Essences in the Fiat in the stern Might of God, which there are the Child' own, the Worm of its Soul, which stands there in the House of the great Anxiety, as in the Originality. For the Seed is sown in the Will, and the Will receives the Fiat in the Tincture, and the Fiat draws the Will to it inwardly, Or give himself into the Imagination. and outwardly [draws] the Seed to a rMass; for the inward and outward Artificer is there.

(3) 2 To say by Nut, the great, who is within the lower mansion: This is (my) son, N., (my) beloved, 2 (my) eldest (son), (who is) upon the throne of Geb, with whom he has been satisfied, 2 to whom he gave his inheritance in the presence of the Great Ennead. 3 All the gods are in exultation; they say: "How beautiful is N., with whom his father Geb is satisfied!

(4) The Father had foreknowledge of him, since he was in his thought before anything came into being, and since he had those to whom he has revealed him. He set the deficiency on the one who remains for certain periods and times, as a glory for his Pleroma, since the fact that he is unknown is a cause of his production from his agreement [...] of him. Just as reception of knowledge of him is a manifestation of his lack of envy and the revelation of the abundance of his sweetness, which is the second glory, so, too, he has been found to be a cause of ignorance, although he is also a begetter of knowledge.

(11) But further, the perfecting unction of the Muron gives to him who has been initiated in the most sacred initiation of the Birth in God, the abiding of the supremely Divine Spirit; the sacred imagery of the symbols, portraying, as I think, the most Divine Spirit abundantly supplied by Him, Who, for our sakes, has been sanctified as man by the supremely Divine Spirit, in an unaltered condition of His essential Godhead.

(112) This is now the true birth or geniture of the Deity, which has been so from eternity in all corners and places whatsoever, and abideth so in all eternity.

(44) The Forming of this highly worthy Person is severally [done;] first there is the Word, or the Deity, which has had its Forming from Eternity in the Father; and assumed in the becoming Man no other Forming [or Image,] but continued in the Father, as it was from Eternity, in its Seat.

(58) O no, thou thyself art faulty, the qualifying or fountain spirits in thy body, which thou thyself art, have generated thee such a little son: Thou canst not say that God has kindled the Salitter out of which he made thee, but thy qualifying or fountain spirits have done it; whereas thou wert clearly before a prince and a king of God.

(41) Timaeus: and setting them each as it were in a chariot He showed them the nature of the Universe, and declared unto them the laws of destiny,—namely, how that the first birth should be one and the same ordained for all, in order that none might be slighted by Him; and how it was needful that they, when sown each into his own proper organ of time, should grow into the most god-fearing of living creatures;
