(60) But he who makes himself like God is one who does nothing unworthy of God, according to the statement of Paul, who has become like Christ.

(102) But the difference lies in this, that man is made by God himself out of the best kernel or pith of nature, to be his angel and similitude, and God ruleth in man with his holy spirit; so that man can speak, discourse, distinguish and understand all things.

(16) "Thou hast supposed iniquity,' He says, " [in imagining] that I will be like to thee." But "it is enough for the disciple to become as the Master," saith the Master. To the likeness of God, then, he that is introduced into adoption and the friendship of God, to the just inheritance of the lords and gods is brought; if he be perfected, according to the Gospel, as the Lord Himself taught.

(5) Come, grant him to be like one of thy followers, for he is even as thou art

(106) Jesus said, "When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and when you say, 'Mountain, move away,' it will move away."

(10) And the Lord our God said unto us : " Behold, they are one people, and (this) they begin to do, and now nothing will be withholden from them. Go to, let us go -down and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech/ and they may be dispersed into cities and nations, and one purpose will no longer abide with them till the day of judgment."

(43) For every man is free, and is as a god to himself; in this life man may change and alter himself either into wrath or into light. Such clothes or garments as a man puts on, transfigure him. And what manner of body soever man soweth into the earth, such a body also grows up from it, though in another form, clarity and brightness, yet all according to the quality of the seed.

(23) Our book will not shrink from making use of what is best in philosophy and other preparatory instruction. "For not only for the Hebrews and those that are under the law," according to the apostle, "is it right to become a Jew, but also a Greek for the sake of the Greeks, that we may gain all." Also in the Epistle to the Colossians he writes, "Admonishing every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ." The nicety of speculation, too, suits the sketch presented in my commentaries. In this respect the resources of learning are like a relish mixed with the food of an athlete, who is not indulging in luxury, but entertains a noble desire for distinction.

(19) ] saith: Verily the Son can do nothing of Himself; but what he seeth his Father do, the Son does also: Also, [Matt. xviii. 3] If you do not convert, and become like children, you cannot come into the kingdom of heaven.

(3) To illustrate: the noble apostle circumcised Timothy, though loudly declaring and writing that circumcision made with hands profits nothing. But that he might not, by dragging all at once away from the law to the circumcision of the heart through faith those of the Hebrews who were reluctant listeners, compel them to break away from the synagogue, he, "accommodating himself to the Jews, became a Jew that he might gain all."

(7) And it is this fact that enables the Hermetist to transmute one mental state into another, along the lines of Polarization. Things belonging to different classes cannot be transmuted into each other, but things of the same class may be changed, that is, may have their polarity changed. Thus Love never becomes East or West, or Red or Violet-but it may and often does turn into Hate and likewise Hate may be transformed into Love, by changing its polarity. Courage may be transmuted into Fear, and the reverse. Hard things may be rendered Soft. Dull things become Sharp. Hot things become Cold. And so on, the transmutation always being between things of the same kind of different degrees. Take the case of a Fearful man. By raising his mental vibrations along the line of Fear- Courage, he can be filled with the highest degree of Courage and Fearlessness. And, likewise, the Slothful man may change himself into an Active, Energetic individual simply by polarizing along the lines of the desired quality.

(5) The conversion is humble toward the beings of the thought, and the law, too, is humble toward them, (the law) of the judgment, which is the condemnation and the wrath. Also humble toward them is the power which separates those who fall below them, sends them far off and does not allow them to spread out over the beings of the thought and the conversion, which (power) consists in fear and perplexity and forgetfulness and astonishment and ignorance and the things which have come into being in the manner of a likeness, through fantasy. And these things, too, which were in fact lowly, are given the exalted names. There is no knowledge for those who have come forth from them with arrogance and lust for power and disobedience and falsehood.

(7) As, then, if a man should, similarly to those drugged by Circe, become a beast; so he, who has spurned the ecclesiastical tradition, and darted off to the opinions of heretical men, has ceased to be a man of God and to remain faithful to the Lord. But he who has returned from this deception, on hearing the Scriptures, and turned his life to the truth, is, as it were, from being a man made a god.

(108) Jesus said, "He who will drink from my mouth will become like Me. I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will become revealed to him."

(58) How can you well suppose that you can change yourselves into another form? Indeed you suffer the devil thus to play the ape with you, and cheat you; and all this while you are but blind in your own skill. Though you have learned your art never so well, yet you do not know the purpose it driveth at; for the pith and heart therein is the changing or altering of the qualifying or fountain spirits, as Lucifer did, when he would needs be God. Now thou askest, How can that be? Answer.

(27) Though indeed they shall be changed at the end of this time, when good and evil shall be separated. So in like manner angels and men, in the [particular] virtue of nature, out of which they had gotten their first beginning, shall subsist in God eternally.

(381) He who makes his mind like unto God as far as he is able, he is the one who honors God greatly.

(28) And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

(89) Open your eyes, and consider yourselves: Man is made according to the similitude, and out of the power, of God in his Ternary. Behold thy inward man, and then thou wilt see it most plainly and clearly; if thou art not a fool and an irrational beast; therefore observe.

(44) The Forming of this highly worthy Person is severally [done;] first there is the Word, or the Deity, which has had its Forming from Eternity in the Father; and assumed in the becoming Man no other Forming [or Image,] but continued in the Father, as it was from Eternity, in its Seat.
