(1) AFTER this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

(1) IN the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. They came bringing the sweet spices which they, and Salome, had prepared, that they might anoint him.

(1) CERTAIN Greeks came up to worship at the feast: the same came to Philip, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

(2) The Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

(8) The women which came with Jesus from Galilee beheld the sepulchre, and how the body was laid. And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, the mother of Joses, sitting over against the sepulchre. That day was the preparation. They returned (home) and prepared spices and ointments: and rested the sabbath day, ¶Now the next day, that followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came unto Pilate, saying, Sir, that deceiver said, while he was yet alive,

(16) And he celebrated this feast during seven days, rejoicing with all his heart and with all his soul, he and all those who were in his house; and there was no stranger with him, nor any that was uncircumcised.

(32) And he celebrated there yet another day, and he sacrificed thereon according to all thathe sacrificed on the former days, and called its name f" Addition, "f for f this day was added, f and the former days he called " The Feast."

(24) ¶In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried,

(6) And this whole festival was celebrated in heaven from the day of creation till the days of Noah — twenty-six jubilees and five weeks of years : and Noah and his sons observed it for seven jubilees and one week of years, till the day of Noah's death, and from the day of Noah's death his sons did away with (it) until the days of Abraham, and they ate blood.

(32) And thus it was manifested that it should be, and it is written on the heavenly tables : wherefore it was revealed to him thathe should celebrate it, and add it to the seven days of the feast. (). And its name a The sanctuary at Bethel was not to be the one central shrine, where alone acceptable worship was to be offered. 3 In Ezra xiv. , Ezra's memory is said to have been miraculously strengthened after he had received the cup of inspiration; cf. also John xiv 26. 4 i. c. the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles. was called j" Addition, ""[ "["because thatf it was recorded amongst the days of the feast days, "[accord- ing to| the number of the days of the year.

(2) Two days before the feast, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people, assembled unto the palace of the high priest Caiaphas, and consulted that they might take Jesus by craft. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

(58) For the Virgin [the Wisdom of God] has graciously bestowed behold in that Wonder; and we cannot [write] otherwise, but our Pen is broken, and the Rose taken from us, and then we are as we were before the Time [of our Knowledge;] whereas yet the Rose stands in the Center of Paradise, in the Hand of the Virgin, which she reaches forth to us, in the same Place where she came to us in the Gate of the Deep, and proffered us her Love, when we lay on the Mountain towards the a North, in the Strife and Storm before Babel, which [Virgin] our earthly Man has never seen nor known.

(58) Now if thou wilt [turn] to the Virgin again, then thou must be born anew through the Water in the Center, and [through] the Holy Ghost; and then thou shalt receive her again with greater Honour and Joy; of which Christ said; There will be more Joy in Heaven for one Sinner that repenteth, than for ninety and nine Righteous, who need no Repentance; so very gloriously is the poor Sinner received again of the Virgin, that ait must no more be a Shadow, but a living and understanding Creature, and [an] Angel of God. This joy none can express, only a regenerate Soul knows it; which the Body understands not; but it trembles, and knows not what is done to it.

(64) And this now is the heavenly Virgin, of which the Spirit of God spoke, in the wise men of old; and Ternarius Sanctus is our true Body in the a Image which we have lost, which now the Heart of God has taken to him for a Body; and this noble Body (as also the Virgin of God) was put upon Mary, not as a Garment, but very powerfully in her Essences, and yet incomprehensibly as to the Essences of this World of Flesh and Blood in the Body of Mary, but comprehensible as to the Soul of Mary; for the Soul passed into the holy Ternary; and yet she could not so be severed from the fierce Wrath, but that was to be in the Breaking of the earthly Body from the heavenly, in the Death of Christ.

(5) Unto the canticle divine responded From every part the court beatified, So that each sight became serener for it. "O holy father, who for me endurest To be below here, leaving the sweet place In which thou sittest by eternal lot, Who is the Angel that with so much joy Into the eyes is looking of our Queen, Enamoured so that he seems made of fire?" Thus I again recourse had to the teaching Of that one who delighted him in Mary As doth the star of morning in the sun. And he to me: "Such gallantry and grace As there can be in Angel and in soul, All is in him; and thus we fain would have it; Because he is the one who bore the palm Down unto Mary, when the Son of God To take our burden on himself decreed. But now come onward with thine eyes, as I Speaking shall go, and note the great patricians Of this most just and merciful of empires. Those two that sit above there most enrapture As being very near unto Augusta, Are as it were the two roots of this Rose.

(6) One o'er the cradle kept her studious watch, And in her lullaby the language used That first delights the fathers and the mothers; Another, drawing tresses from her distaff, Told o'er among her family the tales Of Trojans and of Fesole and Rome. As great a marvel then would have been held A Lapo Salterello, a Cianghella, As Cincinnatus or Cornelia now. To such a quiet, such a beautiful Life of the citizen, to such a safe Community, and to so sweet an inn, Did Mary give me, with loud cries invoked, And in your ancient Baptistery at once Christian and Cacciaguida I became.

(6) And the hands of Horus were brought to him, and displayed before his face, on the feast of the fifteenth day of the month; when the fishes were produced

(33) And there the noble Virgin (in the Spirit of the Prophets) pointed at the Seed of the Woman, at his Incarnation [or becoming Man,] his suffering and dying for the poor Soul of Man, that it might be delivered from the eternal Death, and be regenerated anew, in the Son of the Virgin; which was done after three Thousand nine Hundred and seventy Years; and then the Word of the Promise, which God promised to Adam and Eve in the Paradise in the Garden of Eden, when they fell into Sin, and which imaged [or imprinted] itself in the Center of the Life, through which all Men that come to God are justified, became Man.

(2) Her mouth was not yet closed again, before Appeared a Lady saintly and alert Close at my side to put her to confusion. "Virgilius, O Virgilius! who is this?" Sternly she said; and he was drawing near With eyes still fixed upon that modest one. She seized the other and in front laid open, Rending her garments, and her belly showed me; This waked me with the stench that issued from it. I turned mine eyes, and good Virgilius said: "At least thrice have I called thee; rise and come; Find we the opening by which thou mayst enter." I rose; and full already of high day Were all the circles of the Sacred Mountain, And with the new sun at our back we went. Following behind him, I my forehead bore Like unto one who has it laden with thought, Who makes himself the half arch of a bridge, When I heard say, "Come, here the passage is," Spoken in a manner gentle and benign, Such as we hear not in this mortal region. With open wings, which of a swan appeared, Upward he turned us who thus spake to us, Between the two walls of the solid granite.

(6) For I know and from henceforth shall I declare it unto thee, and it is not of my own devising ; for the book (lieth) written before me, and on the heavenly tables the division of days is ordained, lest they forget the feasts of the covenant and walk according to the feasts of the Gentiles after their error and after their ignorance.
