(13) Now when these evil, devilish Spirits (understand the Center of the Genitrix) moved or boiled in God’s Salitter, and made havock, or spoiled all therein, then there was nothing but Stinging, Burning, Murdering, Robbing, and a mere opposite or contrary Will.

(157) Now in all the Spirits there was nothing else but a mere hot, fiery, cold and hard Corruption, and so one evil Quality tasted the other, whereby the whole Body grew so very fierce and wrathful; for the Heat was against the Cold, and the Cold against the Heat. And

(6) And between these two spirits the Demon-gods (and they who give them worship) can make no righteous choice , since we have beguiled them. As they were questioning and debating in their council the (personified ) Worst Mind approached them that he might be chosen. (They made their fatal decision.) And thereupon they rushed together unto the Demon of Fury, that they might pollute the lives of mortals .

(7) And after this they sinned against the beasts and birds, and all that moveth and walketh on the earth : and much blood was shed on the earth, and every imagination and desire of men imagined vanity , and evil continually.

(35) The Learned have had many Disputations, Questions, Conceits and Opinions concerning the fierce Malignity and Evil that is in all the Creatures, even in the very Sun and Stars in this World; moreover, there are some so very poisonous and venomous Beasts, Worms, and Vegetables in this World, that thereupon rational Men have justly wondered, and some have concluded peremptorily, That God must needs have also willed the Evil, seeing he has created so much that is Evil: And some have laid the Blame and Fault thereof upon the Fall of Adam, and some have imputed it to the Work and Doings of the Devil.

(107) According to this false or wicked Conclusion and Result, they agreed to do one and the same Thing, and so dried up the sweet Water in Lucifer’s Body: the Heat kindled it, and the Astringent dried it, and then it became very sour and sharp. And

(2) Because, likewise, they are excluded, through certain defilements, from an association with pure spirits, they become connected with evil spirits, are filled from them with the worst kind of inspiration, are rendered depraved and unholy, become replete with intemperate pleasures, and every kind of vice, are emulous of manners foreign to the Gods, and, in short, become similar to the depraved dæmons, with whom they are connascent. These, therefore, being full of passions and vice, attract to themselves, through alliance, depraved spirits, and are excited by them to every kind of iniquity. They are also increased in wickedness by each other, like a circle conjoining the beginning to the end, and similarly making an equal compensation. Hence deeds which are the nefarious offences of impiety, which are introduced into sacred works in a disorderly manner, and which are also confusedly performed by those who betake themselves to such works, and at one time, as it seems, cause one divinity to be present instead of another, and again, introduce depraved dæmons instead of Gods, whom they call equal to the Gods ( αντιθεους )—such deeds as these you should never adduce in a discourse concerning sacerdotal divination. For good is more contrary to evil than to that which is not good.

(110) this was the second Enmity against God, from whence is exifted the four Quality in this World, for it was not so from Eternity; as you have an Example thereof in this, viz. if you let any sweet Thing in the Warmth, and let it stand therein, it grows sour of itself; as also Water, Beer or Wine in a Vessel will do; but none of the other Qualities alter, but only into a Stink, which is caused by the Quality of Water. Now thou wilt ask, Question. Why did God suffer Lucifer’s Evil Spirit, which proceeded out of the Body of Lucifer, to come into Him? Could he not hinder it? Answer.

(86) Now the qualifying or fountain Spirits became so fierce and wrathful in their Kindling, that the one continually spoils the other with its evil corrupt Quality or Source, and so also now do the Creatures, which were made out of the qualifying or fountain Spirits, and live in the same Impulse, the one biting, beating, worrying and annoying the other, all according to the Kind or Disposition of the Qualities.

(92) And from hence the wild, fierce, and evil Beasts have their Original in this World. For the Host or Army of Lucifer had kindled the Saltiter of the Stars and of the Earth, and half killed, spoiled and destroyed it.

(15) Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men, ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; ⌈they shall be evil spirits on earth, and⌉ evil spirits shall they be called. [10. As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.]

(30) And this they practised so long, till they had murdered their Mother, the sweet Water; and therein the whole Body became a dark Valley, and there was no more Remedy or Council in God that could help here: For, Love was turned into Enmity, and the whole Body became a black dark Teufel [Devil.] [Teufel, quâ Caufâ.]

(85) And the hard, spoiled or corrupt Matter, which had wrought forth itself in the kindled seven qualifying or Fountain-spirits, was driven together, from whence the Earth and Stones came to be, and after that, all the Creatures were created out of the kindled Saltiter of the seven Spirits of God. [which were made out of]

(93) But when God, after the Fall of Lucifer, made the Creation of this World, then all was created out of the same Saltiter wherein Lucifer had his Seat: And so afterwards the Creatures also in this World must needs be created out of that same Saltiter, which now form themselves according to the Condition or Kind of the kindled Qualities, Evil and Good. And

(3) For it is mind that doth conceive all thoughts - good thoughts when it receives the seeds from God, their contraries when [it receiveth them] from the daimonials; no part of Cosmos being free of daimon, who stealthily doth creep into the daimon who's illumined by God's light , and sow in him the seed of its own energy. And mind conceives the seed thus sown, adultery, murder, parricide, [and] sacrilege, impiety, [and] strangling, casting down precipices, and all such other deeds as are the work of evil daimons.

(1) Moreover, it is necessary to add the causes whence evils sometimes arise, and to show how many and of what kind they are. For the form of them is not simple; but, being various, is the leader of the generation of various evils. For if what we a little before said, concerning images and evil dæmons, who assume the appearance of Gods and good dæmons, is true, an abundant evil-producing tribe, about which a contrariety of this kind usually happens, will from hence appear to flow. For an evil dæmon requires that his worshipper should be just, because he assumes the appearance of one belonging to the divine genus; but he is subservient to what is unjust, because he is depraved. The same thing, likewise, that is said of good and evil may be asserted of the true and the false. As, therefore, in divinations we attribute true predictions to the Gods alone, but when we detect any falsehood in predictions we refer this to another genus of cause, viz. that of dæmons; thus, also, in things just and unjust, the beautiful and the just are to be alone ascribed to Gods and good dæmons; but such dæmons as are naturally depraved, perpetrate what is unjust and base. And that, indeed, which consents and accords with itself, and always subsists with invariable sameness, pertains to more excellent natures; but that which is hostile to itself, which is discordant, and never the same, is the peculiarity in the most eminent degree of dæmoniacal dissension, about which it is not at all wonderful that things of an opposing nature should subsist; but perhaps the very contrary, that this should not be the case, would be more wonderful.

(1) Then they [i.e. the gods] said to the Mind: ' Sing for us the Udgltha/ c So be it/ said the Mind, and sang for them. Whatever pleasure there is in the mind, that it sang for the gods, what- ever good one imagines, that for itself. They [i.e. the devils] knew: 'Verily, by this singer they will overcome us/ They rushed upon him and pierced him with evil. That evil was the improper thing that one imagines. This, truly, was that evil. And thus they let out upon these divinities with evil, they pierced them with evil.

(71) The outward Earth is a bitter Stink, and is dead, and that every Man understands to be so. But the Saltiter is destroyed or killed through the Wrath; for thou canst not deny, but that God's Wrath is in the Earth, otherwise it would not be so astringent, bitter, sour, venomous and poisonous, neither would it engender such poisonous, venomous, evil Worms and creeping Things. But if thou shouldst say, that God has created them thus out of his Purpose, that is as much as if thou shouldst say, that God himself is Evil, Malice, Malignity or Wickedness.

(106) It flattered with the bitter Quality, and with the Heat, and persuaded them that they should elevate themselves and be kindled, and so together they would destroy their Mother, and turn her into a sour Form or Property, whereby they would domineer with their Spirit very sharply over the whole Deity: All must bow down and crouch to them; and they would form, frame, figure and image all with their Sharpness.

(148) But these Spirits elevating themselves thus, and triumphing so fiercely and vehemently one in another, and rising up against the Right of Nature, by that Means they kindled the qualifying or fountain Spirits an exceeding Deal too much; one the astringent Quality attracted or compassed the Body too hard together, so that the sweet Water was dried up.
