(10) And Thou knowest how Thy Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, acted in my day : and as for these spirits which are living, imprison them and hpld them fast in the place of condemnation, and let them not bring destruction on the sons of thy servant, my God ; for these are malignant, and created in 1 ». e. the spirits which issued from the children of the angels and the daughters of men. order to destroy.

(42) And so now the Angels and blessed Men [will] remain in the Birth of the Light; and the Spirits of Alteration out of Light into the Source [or Torment,] together with the Spirits of the wicked Men [will remain] in the eternal Darkness, where no Recalling is to be found; for the Spirits cannot go into the Corruptibility [or Transitoriness] again. They are created out of the aLimbus of God, out of the harsh Matrix, out of which the Light of God exists from Eternity; and not like the Beasts out of the Out-Birth, which went forth out of the Limbus of the conceived Purpose of God, which is finite [or takes an End,] and has been [or appeared] here, only that it might be an eternal Shadow and Figure.

(78) Thou must know, that all the seven Spirits of God are in the Earth, and generate as they do in Heaven: For the Earth is in God, and God never died; but the outermost Birth or Geniture is dead, in which the Wrath rests, and is reserved for King Lucifer, to be a House of Death and of Darkness, and to be an eternal Prison or Dungeon. Of the seven Spirits of God, and of their Operation in the Earth.

(92) And from hence the wild, fierce, and evil Beasts have their Original in this World. For the Host or Army of Lucifer had kindled the Saltiter of the Stars and of the Earth, and half killed, spoiled and destroyed it.

(13) Now when these evil, devilish Spirits (understand the Center of the Genitrix) moved or boiled in God’s Salitter, and made havock, or spoiled all therein, then there was nothing but Stinging, Burning, Murdering, Robbing, and a mere opposite or contrary Will.

(32) "After this manner were the seven men generated. Earth was the female element and water the male element, and from the fire and the æther they received their spirits, and Nature produced bodies after the species and shapes of men. And man received the Life and Light of the Great Dragon, and of the Life was made his Soul and of the Light his Mind. And so, all these composite creatures containing immortality, but partaking of mortality, continued in this state for the duration of a period. They reproduced themselves out of themselves, for each was male and female. But at the end of the period the knot of Destiny was untied by the will of God and the bond of all things was loosened.

(126) Therefore thou must here know, that the Angels with their animated or soulish Birth, in which they qualify and unite with God, have strove and fought in God’s Power and Spirit against the kindled Devils, and turned them out from the Light of God, and driven them together into a Hole, that is, into a narrow Court, Quarter, or Compass, like a Prison, which is the Place or Space in, upon, and above the Earth, up to the Moon, which is a Godless of the earthly Birth or Geniture.

(125) For their bodily or corporeal Birth stands only in the seven qualifying or fountain Spirits, but the animated or soulish Birth in the Angels, unites, mixes, or operates with God; but it is not so in the Devils.

(53) By this you may understand, what great Power the Spirits of the expelled Angels have had in the heavenly Nature; and what Manner of Substance this Perdition or Corruption is of; how they have corrupted and spoiled Nature in Heaven in their Place with their horrible Kindling, from whence the horrible Fierceness which is predominant in this World exists.

(0) On the conflict which the evil spirit waged with the earth.

(11) Thereupon, the guardian spirits of men became of the same opinion with the omniscient wisdom about going to the world, on account of the evil that comes upon them, in the world, from the fiend (drûg) Aharman, and their becoming, at last, again unpersecuted by the adversary, perfect, and immortal, in the future existence, for ever and everlasting.

(10) Afterwards, the evil spirit, with the confederate demons, went towards the luminaries, and he saw the sky; and he led them up, fraught with malicious intentions.

(86) And as the rising up of the Spirits in every Place is, so the Tone also forms itself, but very meekly, and incomprehensibly to the Bodies of the Angels, but very comprehensibly to the animated or soulish Birth or Geniture of Angels: And as the Deity presents itself in each Place, so the Angels also present themselves: For the Angels were created out of this Being, and have among them their Princes of the qualifying or fountain Spirits of God, as they are in the Birth or Geniture of God.

(14) They are the Power of the seven Spirits of God; for when the Wrath of God was kindled by the Devil in this World, then the whole House of this World in Nature, or the outermost Birth or Geniture, was as it were benumbed or chilled in Death, from whence the Earth and Stones are come to be. But when this hard Dross or Scum was driven together into a Lump or Heap, then the Deep was cleared, but was very dark, for the Light therein was dead in the Wrath. But

(42) And their State, [Condition, Jurisdiction, or Authority,] is founded in the Originality of the Essence of all Essences, where God in the Beginning created the Thrones, according to his eternal Wisdom; where then (both in Heaven and also in Hell) there are according to the seven Spirits of the eternal Nature, of which here much ought not to be said, for the World holds it impossible to know such Things; whereas yet a Spirit born in God searches into the Kingdom of Heaven.

(113) But when the astral Spirits are enlightened from the animated or soulish Spirit, which in the Light unites with God, then they grow fervent, and very longing and desirous of the Light. On the other hand, the animated or soulish Spirit of the Devil, which rules in the outermost Birth or Geniture of Man, is very terrible and angry, and of a very contrary or opposite Will.

(23) The region of air (e) is a partial exception to this order. While air is close to the light and filled with beautiful spirits, it is also the habitation of Beelzebub, the Evil Spirit of the air, with his legion of elemental demons. Upon the subtle element of air are impressed the influences of the stars; the thoughts, words, and deeds of man; and a myriad of mysterious influences from the various planes of Nature. Man inhales these impressions, and they produce diverse effects upon his mind. In air are suspended also the seed germs by which water is impregnated and made capable of bringing forth forms of organic and inorganic life. The grotesque figures seen in crystal caves and frost pictures upon windows are caused by these aerial impressions. While the air elementals are great and wise, they are treacherous and confused because amenable to both good and evil impressions. The mighty elemental beings who inhabit the watery light fire of the region X cannot be deceived by the spirits of darkness. They love the creatures of the waters, for the watery element (d) proceeded from the fiery water (X). Mortal man cannot endure the society of these fiery spirits, but gains wisdom from them through the creatures of the waters in which they continually mirror themselves. Figure 59 represents this solar system, with W and X as the locality of the Garden of Eden.

(12) "Yet," he adds, "the Elementals are not spirits, because they have flesh, blood and bones; they live and propagate offspring; they cat and talk, act and sleep, &c., and consequently they cannot be properly called 'spirits.' They are beings occupying a place between men and spirits, resembling men and spirits, resembling men and women in their organization and form, and resembling spirits in the rapidity of their locomotion." (Philosophia Occulta, translated by Franz Hartmann.) Later the same author calls these creatures composita, inasmuch as the substance out of which they are composed seems to be a composite of spirit and matter. He uses color to explain the idea. Thus, the mixture of blue and red gives purple, a new color, resembling neither of the others yet composed of both. Such is the case with the Nature spirits; they resemble neither spiritual creatures nor material beings, yet are composed of the substance which we may call spiritual matter, or ether.

(8) And, afterwards, antagonism rushed into their minds, and their minds were thoroughly corrupted, and they exclaimed that the evil spirit created the water and earth, plants and animals, and the other things as aforesaid.
