(25) And whatever is done or can be done for him, seemeth him all too little and too poor, for he thinketh himself worthy of still more and greater honour than can be rendered to him. And of all the men who serve him and are subject to him, even if they be downright thieves and murderers, he saith nevertheless, that they have faithful, noble hearts, and have great love and faithfulness to the truth and to poor men. And such men are praised by him, and he seeketh them and followeth after them wherever they be. But he who doth not order himself according to the will of these high-minded men, nor is subject unto them, is not sought after by them, nay, more likely blamed and spoken ill of, even though he were as holy as St. Peter himself. And seeing that this proud and puffed-up spirit thinketh that she needeth neither Scripture, nor instruction, nor anything of the kind, therefore she giveth no heed to the admonitions, order, laws and precepts of the holy Christian Church, nor to the Sacraments, but mocketh at them and at all men who walk according to these ordinances and hold them in reverence.

(137) For our King sits in divine Omnipotence, where King Lucifer sat, and on the kingly Throne of expelled Lucifer, and the Kingdom of King Lucifer is now become HIS: O Prince Lucifer, how dost thou relish that?

Truly he nothing asked but 'Follow me.' Nor Peter nor the rest asked of Matthias Silver or gold, when he by lot was chosen Unto the place the guilty soul had lost.

(102) O, how fair a Looking-Glass art thou, in the Presence of the Holy Angels; do but smell to thy sweet Love and Humility, does it not smell or favour just like Hell? All these Parties are invited as Guests to the following Chapters. Of the Kingly Primacy, or of the Power and Authority of the Three Angelical Kings.

(2) Come on you Philolophers, and you Lawyers and Advocates, that justify and defend King Lucifer! Come near and bring him to the Bar, whilst he has yet the Crown upon him, for here we will hold a Court of Judgment against Malefactors for him; if you can maintain his Cause to be right, then he shall be your King; if not, then he shall be turned out and cast down into Hell; and another shall get his royal Crown, who will govern better than he. Now observe,

(1) Our Lord saith that the Kingdom of God is near us. Yea, the Kingdom of God is within us as St Paul saith "our salvation is nearer than when we believed." Now we should know in what manner the Kingdom of God is near us. Therefore let us pay diligent attention to the meaning of the words. If I were a king, and did not know it, I should not really be a king. But, if I were fully convinced that I was a king, and all mankind coincided in my belief, and I knew that they shared my conviction, I should indeed be a king, and all the wealth of the king would be mine. But, if one of these three conditions were lacking, I should not really be a king.
