(19) The cold also in God is not of such a kind, but is a cooling or refreshing of the heat, a mollifying or allaying of the spirit, a rising up, boiling or moving of the spirit. Note here the Depth.

(16) Heat is set in opposition unto it, and qualifieth therein, as if it were one and the same thing; but cold opposeth the fierceness or rage of the heat, and allayeth the heat.

(17) Cold containeth also two sorts or species in it, which are to be observed, viz. It mitigateth the heat, makes all things pleasant, and is in all creatures a quality of life; for no creature can subsist without cold; for it is a springing, driving mobility in every thing.

(73) The heat would be against both, in that with its fierce, wrathful kindling and rising up it makes all hot, burning and raging, and is fully or totally against the cold.

(14) Yet the heat makes the light moveable, so that it springeth and driveth forth; as is seen in winter, when the light of the sun is likewise upon the earth, but the hot rays of the sun cannot reach into the earth, and that is the reason why no fruit grows in winter. Of the Qualification of the Cold Quality.

(15) Cold is a quality also, as well as heat; it qualifieth or operateth in all creatures whatsoever that come forth in nature, and in all whatsoever that move therein, in men, beasts, fowls, fishes, worms, leaves and grass.

(1) "You are blessed, Shem, for your race has been protected from the dark wind, which is many-faced. And they will bear witness to the universal testimony and to the impure rubbing of nature. And they will become higher of mind by remembering the light.

(44) As an illustration of the fact just stated, we may consider the two opposites known as Hot and Cold, respectively; surely there can be no two qualities apparently more distinct and separate from each other—more diametrically different from each other. But careful examination shows us that the two contrasting things are really but degrees, conditions, and states of the same thing. There is no such thing as an "absolute hot," or an "absolute cold." There are merely different degrees of this Hot-Cold pair of opposites, which for convenience we call "Heat." We cannot point out a place on the thermometer where Hot ceases and Cold begins, or vice versa. The two states or conditions blend into each other, and any statement regarding them is found to be merely comparative. If we place one hand in a bowl of very hot water, and the other in a bowl of ice-cold water, and then suddenly withdraw both hands and plunge them into a bowl of lukewarm water, what happens d Simply this, that we find that the hot-water hand feels a sensation of coolness, while the cold-water hand feels a sensation of heat—each experience resulting from the comparison with the previous experience.

(4) And again, observe ye the days of summer how the sun is above the earth over against it. And you seek shade and shelter by reason of the heat of the sun, and the earth also burns with growing heat, and so you cannot tread on the earth, or on a rock by reason of its heat.

(158) The heat is only a gentle soft warming, even as it is in a man who is of a sanguine complexion, wherein also the heat is only a friendly, cheerly wanning, if the party liveth temperately, and keepeth a due measure.

(3) Then passing on to the Physical Plane, they illustrate the Principle by showing that Heat and Cold are identical in nature, the differences being merely a matter of degrees. The thermometer shows many degrees of temperature, the lowest pole being called "cold," and the highest "heat." Between these two poles are many degrees of "heat" or "cold," call them either and you are equally correct. The higher of two degrees is always "warmer," while the lower is always "colder." There is no absolute standard-all is a matter of degree. There is no place on the thermometer where heat ceases and cold begins. It is all a matter of higher or lower vibrations. The very terms "high" and "low," which we are compelled to use, are but poles of the same thing-the terms are relative. So with "East and West"--travel around the world in an eastward direction, and you reach a point which is called west at your starting point, and you return from that westward point. Travel far enough North, and you will find yourself traveling South, or vice versa.

(11) Now the heat reigneth and predominateth in all powers in nature, and warmeth all, and is one source or spring in all; for if it were not so the water would be too cold, and the earth would be congealed, and there would be no air.

(4) In the Year or as regards Time, these three mothers represent Heat, Cold, and a Temperate climate, the heat from the fire, the cold from the water, and the temperate state from the spiritual air which again is an equalizer between them.

(1) Then others from the seed of Ham and Japheth come, four hundred thousand, and enter another land and stay with those people who came from the great eternal knowledge. The shadow of their power protects those with them from everything evil and every filthy desire.

(23) These two [air and water] are caused by heat and cold, and qualify or mix and operate together as one thing.

(69) As is apparent in winter, when there is so hard cold or frost that the water becometh ice; though the sun shineth somewhat warm through all the cold frost, yet for all its beams, by which it shineth on them, water freezeth into snow and ice.

(31) Now where the water is there is no burning fire, but a pleasing warmth, and a gentle qualifying or vivifying; but if the water should be dried up, then there would be burning fire there.
