(1) O Soul most mighty, here am I: I am come to thee that I may see thee

(52) Yet I do not complain; I merely state my case. My heart says, "He has injured me," Do me justice, O Thou who art the glory of the just, Who art the throne, and I the lintel of Thy door! But, in sober truth, where are throne and doorway? Where are "We" and "I?" There where our Beloved is! O Thou, who art exempt from "Us" and "Me," Who pervadest the spirits of all men and women; When man and woman become one, Thou art that One! When their union is dissolved, lo! Thou abidest!

(85) Thou seest, also, how heaven is in a holy man; and that everywhere, wheresoever thou standest, goest or liest, if thy spirit does but qualify or cooperate with God, then, as to that part, thou art in heaven, and thy soul is in God. Therefore also saith Christ, [John x. 28, 29] My sheep are in my hands, no man can pull them away from me.

(141) Herein stands the innermost and greatest depth of God. O man, consider thyself! I will more largely declare it in its due place.

(11) If, Ο Lord, You think me able to behold it, then, Ο Master of yogis, reveal to me Your immutable Self.

(3) I have come to thee; my heart holds right, my heart contains no falsehood. Give me to be among the living, to navigate up and down in thy train

(71) If Thou findest fault with Thy slaves, Verily it is right in Thee, O Blessed One! If Thou shouldst call sun and moon obscure, If Thou shouldst call the straight cypress crooked, If Thou shouldst declare the highest heaven base, Or rich mines and oceans paupers, All this is the truth in relation to Thy perfection! Thine is the dominion and the glory and the wealth! For Thou art exempt from defect and not-being, Thou givest existence to things non-existent, and again

(121) In highest heaven. Know this for a surety. O beloved! Yet am I contained in the believer's heart! If ye seek me, search in such hearts!" He said also, "Enter the hearts of my servants To gain the paradise of beholding Me, O fearer of God." Highest heaven, with all its light and wide expanse, When it beheld Adam, was shaken from its place! Highest heaven is greatness itself revealed; But what is form when reality draws nigh? Every angel declared, "In times of yore

(2) In similar fashion our salvation depends upon our knowing and recognizing the Chief Good which is God Himself. I have a capacity in my soul for taking in God entirely. I am as sure as I live that nothing is so near to me as God. God is nearer to me than I am to myself; my existence depends on the nearness and presence of God. He is also near things of wood and stone, but they know it not. If a piece of wood became as aware of the nearness of God as an archangel is, the piece of wood would be as happy as an archangel. For this reason man is happier than the inanimate wood, because he knows and understands how God is near him. His happiness increases and diminishes in proportion to the increase and diminution in his knowledge of this.

His happiness does not arise from this that God is near him, and in him, and that He possesses God; but from this, that he knows the nearness of God, and loves Him, and is aware that "the Kingdom of God is near." So, when I think on God's Kingdom, I am compelled to be silent because of its immensity, because God's Kingdom is none other than God Himself with all His riches. God's Kingdom is no small thing: we may survey in imagination all the worlds of God's creation, but they are not God's Kingdom. In whichever soul God's Kingdom appeareth, and which knoweth God's Kingdom, that soul needeth no human preaching or instruction; it is taught from within and assured of eternal life. Whoever knows and recognizes how near God's Kingdom is to him may say with Jacob, "God is in this place, and I knew it not."

(1) Oh thou Only One, who shinest from the Moon, let me come forth amid that train of thine, at large, and let me be revealed as one of those in glory

(31) And though in my body I am powerless to bring thee there, yet That from which I have my knowledge is mighty and potent enough to cast thee even into the abyss of hell.

(6) Now rejoice, all ye powers of my soul, that you are so united with God that no one may separate you from Him. I cannot fully praise nor love Him therefore must I die, and cast myself into the divine void, till I rise from non-existence to existence. If I should remain entombed in flesh till the judgment day and suffer the pains of hell, that would be for me a small thing to bear for my beloved Lord Jesus Christ, if I had the certainty at last of not being separated from Him.

While I am here, He is in me; after this life, I am in Him. All things are therefore possible to me, if I am united to Him Who can do all things. Previously I could not distinguish whether we were divine by nature or by grace. Then came Jesus and enlightened me so that I recognized in the Divine Nature Three Persons, and that the Father was the Bringer-Forth of all things, as St James says, "every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights."

(50) Yea, a hundred times as wicked as Thou sayest. But in mercy Thou veilest my sins, But, independently of my own works and warfare, Independently of my faith or unfaith, good or evil, Independently of my poor devotion to Thee, And of my thoughts and the thoughts of hundreds like me, Whether Thou adjudge me upright or rebellious, O Lord, who art gracious without thought of consequence, I set my face towards that free grace of Thine;

(6) If thus Ye are in verity, O Mazda! with the Righteous Order and Thy Good Mind, then grant Ye me a sign of this in this world's entire abiding (while I live amid its scenes), how offering sacrifice and praising You the more devoutly , I may approach You (in my worship)!

(5) 'O God, you who know the secret of all things, bring to pass the worldly desires of my enemies, and grant my friends the eternity of the future life. But as for me, I am free of both. Even if I possessed this present world or the world of the future, I should esteem them little in comparison with being near to you. I need only you. If I should turn my eyes towards the two worlds, or desire anything but you, I should be no more than an unbeliever.'

(1) May I come to thee and be glorified and made manifest and ensouled, let me have strength and soundness

(31) Holy art Thou, O God, the universals' Father. Holy art Thou, O God, whose Will perfects itself by means of its own Powers. Holy art Thou, O God, who willeth to be known and art known by Thine own. Holy art Thou,who didst by Word (Logos) make to consist the things that are. Holy art Thou, of whom All-nature hath been made an image. Holy art Thou, whose Form Nature hath never made. Holy art Thou, more powerful than all power. Holy art Thou, transcending all pre-eminence. Holy Thou art, Thou better than all praise. Accept my reason's offerings pure, from soul and heart for aye stretched up to Thee, O Thou unutterable, unspeakable, Whose Name naught but the Silence can express.

(91) 'A secret known to more than two is known to every one.' As I live in the midst of these Arabs, Yet, had the mighty grace of God led the way, How could this fear have vied with God's attraction? O Granter of aid, lend us aid This flux and reflux of resolves came to me from Thee, Else these tides of will had rested still, O God! By the same fiat whereby Thou madest me thus irresolute, Of Thy mercy deliver me from this irresolution! Thou triest me; O give me aid!

(42) For thou needest not to ask, Where is God? [See Ch. 14, par. 127] Hearken, thou blind man; thou livest in God, and God is in thee; and if thou livest holily, then therein thou thyself art God. For wheresoever thou lookest, there, is God.
