(27) And He spake to Jacob and said : "I am the Lord God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac ; the land whereon thou art sleeping, to thee shall I give it, and to thy seed after thee.

(44) And on the sixteenth the Lord ap- peared unto him, and said unto him, " Jacob, Jacob " ; and he said, " Here am I." And He said unto him : " I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham and Isaac ; fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will there make of thee a great nation.

(18) And the Lord called Abraham by his name a second time from heaven, as he caused us to appear to speak to him in the name of the Lord.

(45) And Israel said unto Joseph : " Now let me die since I have seen thee, and now may the Lord God of Israel be blessed, the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac who hath not withheld His mercy and His grace from His servant Jacob.

(36) Remember ye, my sons, the Lord God of Abraham your father, and how I too worshipped Him and served Him in righteousness and in joy, that He might multiply you and increase your seed as the stars of heaven in multitude, and establish you on the earth as the plant of righteousness which will not be rooted out unto all the generations for ever.

(29) And Isaac went up from the Well of the Oath and dwelt in the tower of Abraham his father on the mountains of Hebron,

(15) Neither will thy name any more be called Abram, But thy name from henceforth, even for ever, shall be Abraham. For the father of many nations have I made thee.

(32) And the Lord appeared to him by night and blessed him and said unto him : ' " Thy name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel shall they name thy name."

(22) And he called Jacob and said : " My son Jacob, may the God of all bless thee and strengthen thee to do righteousness, and His will before Him, and may He choose thee and thy seed that ye may become a people for His inheritance according to His will alway. And do thou, my son, Jacob, draw near and kiss me."

(24) And the Lord appeared to him that night, on the new moon of the first month, and said unto him : "I am the God of Abraham thy father; fear not, for I am with thee, and shall bless thee and shall surely multiply thy seed as the sand of the earth, for the sake of Abraham my servant."

(24) And they digged again the wells Oi water which the servants of Abraham, his father, had digged, and which the Philistines had closed after the death of Abraham his father, and he called their names as Abraham his father had named them.

(15) And Abraham said unto God : " O that Ishmael might live before thee I "

(23) And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and behold Abraham was cold as ice, and he said: "Father, father!"; but there was none that spake, and he knew thathe was dead.

(18) And God said to him, " Abraham, Abra- ham " ; and he said, "Behold, (here) am I."

(31) And Isaac said : " Let my son Jacob come, and let me see him before I die." x

(18) And I called to him from heaven, and said unto him : "Abraham, Abraham"; and he was terrified and said : " Behold, (here) am I." II. And I said unto him : " Lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything to him ; for now I have shown that thou fearest the Lord, and hast not withheld thy son, thy first-born son, from me."

(26) Be lord over thy brethren, And let thy mother's sons bow down to thee ; And may all the blessings wherewith the Lord hath blessed me and blessed Abraham, my father, Be imparted to thee and to thy seed for ever : Cursed be he that curseth thee, And blessed be he that blesseth thee."

(42) And Jacob said : " Me have ye bereaved of my children ! Joseph is not and Simeon also is not, and ye will take Benjamin away. On me hath your wickedness come." x

(63) Hitherto the Honour of Invocation [or Worship] has been paid and afforded to the Virgin Mary, and other Saints, [or holy People,] that have been here [in this Life;] whereas yet (in the Ground of the Light of Nature) this Command or Law was not known at all, and it is most highly necessary to be known, that the Ground thereof has been taken in the confused Babel, when Men were weary of the poor Christ, who in this World had not whereon to lay his Head. Then they did as Israel with Moses, who made themselves a Calf to be their God, and said; Behold, Israel, these are thy Gods, which brought thee out of the Land of Egypt; and they made a calvish Worship of God, for their voluptuous Life, and looked no more after Moses, but said; We know not what is become of this Man Moses; and they said to Aaron. Make thou us Gods which may go before us, and he made them the Calf; but when Moses came and saw it, then he was wroth, and took the Tables of God, and broke them, and threw them away, and said; Hearken, you that belong unto the Lord, gird every Man his Sword to his Side, and slay his Brother, the Worshippers of the Calf.

(22) And he blessed Jacob and said : " My son, over whom with all my heart and my affection I rejoice, may Thy grace and Thy mercy be lift up x upon him and upon his seed alway>
