(7) Him, tho’ he’s absent, yet I fear, O guest,

To name; such is the greatness of my love and care.

(109) And I will bring forth in shining light those who have loved My holy name, and I will seat each on the throne of his honour.

(43) If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honoreth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: yet ye have not known him: but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you; but I know him, and keep his saying. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.

(41) Were it not for this yoke who would boast, 'I am ?' Because Thou hast made Moses' face bright as the moon, Can my star ever shine brighter than the moon? If it be eclipsed, what remedy have I? Though princes and kings beat drums, And men beat cymbals because of my eclipse, They beat their brass dishes and raise a clamour, And make my moon ashamed thereby, I, who am Pharaoh, woe is me! The people's clamour Confounds my boast, 'I am Lord Supreme!'

(16) Praise, glory, and honours make not for righteousness or long life, or for strength, or health, or pleasure of the body. But such will be the end sought by a wise man knowing his advantage; and he who desires mirth of spirit may give himself to drink, gambling, and the like. For glory men waste their substance, ay, even their lives. But will syllables feed them? and when they are dead, who has pleasure of it? As a child wails bitterly when its house of sand is broken down, so I deem my own spirit will be when praise and glory vanish. Praise is but sound, and being itself without thought, cannot praise me.
