(67) Behold! the other planets are peculiar bodies of their own, which have a corporeal propriety of themselves, and are not bound to any settled or fixed place, but only to their circle, orb or sphere wherein they run their course. But the SUN is not such a body, but is only a place or locality kindled by the light of God. Understand it aright.

(65) The sun stands in the centre or midst of the deep, and is the light or heart which proceeded out of all stars: For when, in the kingdom of Lucifer, before the creation of the world, the Salitter and Mercurius was thin or dim, and had qualified the one with the other, then God extracted the heart out of all the powers, and made the sun thereof.

(65) The SUN has its own royal place to itself, and does not go away from that place where it came to be at the first. Some suppose that it runneth round about the globe of the earth in a day and a night; and some of the astrologers also write so; and some have undertaken to measure how far its orb and circumference of its supposed motion is.

(66) This opinion or supposition is not right, but the earth rolleth itself about; and runneth with the other planets, as in a wheel, round about the sun. The earth does not remain staying in one place, but in a year runneth round once about the sun, as the other planets next the sun, but Saturn and Jupiter, as also Mars, by reason of their great orb, circumference, and great height, cannot do it [in a year], because they stand so high above, and far distant from the SUN. Now it may be asked, What is the SUN, and what are the other PLANETS? Or how are they come to be?

(68) The place where the SUN is, is such a place as you may choose or suppose anywhere above the earth; and if God should kindle the light by the heat, then the whole world would be such a mere SUN; for that same power wherein the sun stands is everywhere all over; and before the time of wrath it was everywhere all over in the place of this world as light as the sun now is, but not so intolerable.

(12) But its height or distance cannot be exactly known. But I am fully persuaded that it is in the midst, in the deep between Jupiter and the general sphere of the fixed stars or constellations, for it is the heart of the corporeity in nature.

(72) And the sun has (therewith) traversed the divisions of his orbit and turns again on those divisions of his orbit, and enters that portal thirty mornings and sets also in the west opposite to it.

(62) Timaeus: this is a wholly erroneous supposition For inasmuch as the whole Heaven is spherical, all its outermost parts, being equally distant from the center, must really be “outermost” in a similar degree; and one must conceive of the center, which is distant from all the outermost parts by the same measures, as being opposite to them all. Seeing, then, that the Cosmos is actually of this nature, which of the bodies mentioned can one set “above” or “below” without incurring justly the charge of applying a wholly unsuitable name? For its central region cannot rightly be termed either “above” or “below,” but just “central”; while its circumference neither is central nor has it any one part more divergent than another from the center or any of its opposite parts. But to that which is in all ways uniform, what opposite names can we suppose are rightly applicable, or in what sense? For suppose there were a solid body evenly-balanced at the center of the universe,

(46) The whole body to the neck signifieth and is the round circle or sphere of the stars, as also the deep within or between the stars, wherein the planets and elements reign.

(34) There are two distinct systems of astrological philosophy. One of them, the Ptolemaic, is geocentric: the earth is considered the center of the solar system, around which the sun, moon, and planets revolve. Astronomically, the geocentric system is incorrect; but for thousands of years it has proved its accuracy when applied to the material nature of earthly things. A careful consideration of the writings of the great occultists and a study of their diagrams reveal the fact that many of them were acquainted with another method of arranging the heavenly bodies.

(46) Now observe: The sun stirreth in the midst, in the deep between the stars, in a round circle, and is the heart of the stars, and giveth light and power to all the stars, so tempering the power of the stars that all becometh pleasant and joyful.

(44) But the light of the meekness of the sun qualifieth, mixeth or uniteth with the pure Deity; but the heat cannot comprehend the light, and therefore also the place of the sun remaineth in the body of God's wrath, and thou must not worship, nor pray to nor honour the sun as God, for its place or body cannot apprehend the water of life, because of the fierceness in the sun. The highest Ground of the SUN, and of ALL the PLANETS.

(51) As the sun is a self-subsisting creature, power and light, which shineth not forth from or out of all creatures, but in and into all creatures, and all creatures rejoice in its power.

(71) Thus on the fourth day, in the anxious birth or geniture of this world, in the middle point or centre of this world, the SUN is sprung up, and stands still in its eternal, corporeal place; for it cannot rise up in one place, and set in another.

(39) But as soon as the light kindled itself in the heat, so instantly was that hot place caught in the light, and then the body of the sun could grow no bigger. For the light mitigated the heat, and so the body of the sun remained there in the midst or centre as a heart; for the light is the heart of nature, not the heat. But here thou must observe exactly,

(35) The other system of astrological philosophy is called the heliocentric. This posits the sun in the center of the solar system, where it naturally belongs, with the planets and their moons revolving about it. The great difficulty, however, with the heliocentric system is that, being comparatively new, there has not been sufficient time to experiment successfully and catalogue the effects of its various aspects and relationships. Geocentric astrology, as its name implies, is confined to the earthy side of nature, while heliocentric astrology may be used to analyze the higher intellectual and spiritual faculties of man.

(77) But seeing the heat was so terrified by the light, thereupon its horrible fire-source was allayed, and so could kindle itself no further; and so also the breaking through of the love in the light of God through the heaven at this time, with its breaking through, extended or stretched itself no further out of, or from God's predestinated purpose; therefore also the SUN came to be no bigger. (24) Pythagoras conceived the universe to be an immense monochord, with its single string connected at its upper end to absolute spirit and at its lower end to absolute matter--in other words, a cord stretched between heaven and earth. Counting inward from the circumference of the heavens, Pythagoras, according to some authorities, divided the universe into nine parts; according to others, into twelve parts. The twelvefold system was as follows: The first division was called the empyrean, or the sphere of the fixed stars, and was the dwelling place of the immortals. The second to twelfth divisions were (in order) the spheres of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the sun, Venus, Mercury, and the moon, and fire, air, water, and earth. This arrangement of the seven planets (the sun and moon being regarded as planets in the old astronomy) is identical with the candlestick symbolism of the Jews--the sun in the center as the main stem with three planets on either side of it.

(55) According to Pythagoras, the position of each body in the universe was determined by the essential dignity of that body. The popular concept of his day was that the earth occupied the center of the solar system; that the planets, including the sun and moon, moved about the earth; and that the earth itself was flat and square. Contrary to this concept, and regardless of criticism, Pythagoras declared that fire was the most important of all the elements; that the center was the most important part of every body; and that, just as Vesta's fire was in the midst of every home, so in the midst of the universe was a flaming sphere of celestial radiance. This central globe he called the Tower of Jupiter, the Globe of Unity, the Grand Monad, and the Altar of Vesta. As the sacred number 10 symbolized the sum of all parts and the completeness of all things, it was only natural for Pythagoras to divide the universe into ten spheres, symbolized by ten concentric circles. These circles began at the center with the globe of Divine Fire; then came the seven planers, the earth, and another mysterious planet, called Antichthon, which was never visible.
